The Naked Truth

Currently listening to: War at Home by Josh Groban

Hi girls,

How are you and how was your Monday? Mine wasn't too bad, better than expected.

I mentioned yesterday that I cut my nails. Oh yes. I often comment here that my nails are in terrible condition and I always have to have them painted because they look so dreadful bare. Well, in case you ever wondered just how bad my bare nails looked, this was them yesterday:

I have never in my life had strong, white tips. There is always a yellow tinge to them and they're weak and transparent. You can see I also have a problem with colour on my nail beds- although at the base of the nail the pink colour is healthy, it turns dark pink and orange towards the tip. Not nice.

So once again I decided to go for the chop and embark on a healthy nail growth programme and this time I'm hoping some new products might help improve the condition of my nails and make a real, long-lasting, noticeable difference.

What do you think, girls? Do you have problems with your nails? Are there any products you can recommend to me to help with my growth programme?

Bye for now,
Laura

  1. Good luck with that product! I have brittle nails because of my thyroid but you can drink vitamin B12 to get sturdier nails. Calcium also, of course!

Buffering your nails every week will make them stronger too. <3

  2. Seriously though I dont think your nails are that bad - I mean I can see the colouring but Ive seen much MUCH worse nails. Hope the products you use make a diff!!

I have no idea what my nails are like - and I prob don't want to know either. I've had acrylics since my last year of high school.. so about 7 years !!

  3. @Toni, thanks for the tips. I've never buffered my nails before so that could be worth a try :-)

@Christe,ha, so it could be a lot worse then. Are acrylics high maintenance?

  4. Ooh I hope the product works.
My nails all very short and most are peeling at the ends. :(
Been meaning to let you know that I don't think I can come in Feb. Had to change my holidays several time with Head office because yet again they are short staffed and couldn't give me the days I requested a few months ago. Ended up with some random days in March for now

  6. @Wing, I hope this products work too though I'm not very hopeful. I can already see one nail starting to peel. I miss my nail polish.
Shame about your holidays being messed up. Let me know when a visit will suit you. Any weekend is fine for me.

@Marie, thanks, guess I'll just have to learn by trying and testing products to see what works for me. Long process!

  7. Hi Laura (thanks for following my blog! I'm following you now)

I think you've chose some good products there. My personal preference is Solar Oil (do check out my review on my blog) but the Avoplex range is very similar.

Rather than buffing (where you can do more damage than good sometimes) concentrate on spending time massaging the oil/treatments into the nail bed and around the cuticle area. This is where the nail grows from and the massage will stimulate nail growth.

Do your nails discolour from nail polish staining? Or naturally? You could try protecting them with a base coat, especially when wearing dark polishes (especially red polishes) and you could try Cuccio Nail Whitening Paste. I use it to keep my tips clean and as white as possible. It's a bit like toothpaste for your nails.

  8. @CR, Hi, thanks for following and commenting :-) And thanks for the growth tips.
I think the staining on my nails is natural and from nail polish even though I always wear a base coat. It's a vicious pattern because nail polish stains my nails so then they look horrible natural and I end up wearing polish all the time so my nails never have a chance to "breathe".

I'll definitely investigate the nail paste and check out Solar Oil :-)
