Thursday's Talons: Essence Peel Off Base Coat

Currently listening to: Wings by Little Mix

 Good morning lovely ladies,

Today I thought I'd share my experience of using Essence Peel Off Base Coat with you as I know this is a polish a lot of bloggers have been excited as it could lead to the end of glitter removal nightmares.

I decided to test it on the glitter manicure I showed you on Tuesday:

Before painting my nails, I applied a coat of Peel Off Base Coat, which applies white and dries clear after about 10 minutes.  I applied my other polishes only after the base coat had turned from white to clear, as instructed.

Two days later, I decided it was time to remove my manicure so, starting with my thumb nail, I picked at the lower edger of the polish and was delighted when it lifted up.

I thought it was great, until I started trying to do the same thing with all my other nails.  The problem I found was removing the polish on the upper half of my nails.  It just wouldn't peel off.  So I was left with this mess:

I've seen a lot of positive reviews of this base coat on blogs so I don't know why it went so wrong for me but I'm really disappointed.

Have you tried this base coat?  Do you have any tips for me?

Bye for now,
Laura

  1. I haven't tried it yet, and what worries me the most is that I cannot help but think: if it sticks to the nail good enough to hold polish, will it then not remove a tiny bit of the nail too, when you peal it off...?

    1. I think that's a good point. It probably does remove some of your nail too!

  2. I'm a big fan of essence but this is not something i'd ever heard of! Doens't look great from what you show, and I'd also worry that something like this would make your mani chip and come off sooner than usual. Sounds like a bit of a gimmick to me!! xx

    1. I thought that too- I have enough trouble getting my manicures to last, chip-free, why would I want a peel off base coat?! But I thought it was worth trying for glitter polishes plus I'd read lots of great reviews.

  3. I haven't tried this base coat myself, but I'd like to at some point. Not that I make a big fuss out of removing glitter. I know it's sometimes difficult, but to me it's all worth it :)
I understand you're disappointed though, I would be too!

  4. Strange! I wonder why this happened? So many other reviews show how awesome it was. Maybe it has to do with body chemistry?

  7. Hmm, I wonder why this happened! I really have no clue what you could have done wrong :/ Maybe the pink glitter loved you so much, that it doesn't want to be removed :D
