Nail Growth Update

Currently watching: Eastenders

Hi girls,

It's time for an update on my nail growth programme :-) Just under two weeks ago I cut my nails rather drastically as they were in bad condition and I wanted to start on a healthy growth programme for them. You can see the pictures and read the post here

I've been using OPI Avolplex High Intensity Hand & Nail Cream and OPI Avoplex Cuticle Oil several times a day, every day for the last two weeks. Have the products helped my nails grow? Let's see what my nails look like today:

Certainly my nails are longer than they were two weeks ago but oh look, peels!

I am so disappointed by all these peels. The OPI products are good but I don't think they're going to help my peeling nails. What can I use??? Do I have to turn to the dreaded Sally Hansen (I find that brand's products do nothing for me at all)? Any recommendations or suggestions will be gratefully received!

Bye for now,
Laura

  1. I've been using Nail Envy by OPI for the last few months and I like it a lot. It's a nail strengthener and it makes my nails much stronger so they don't peel. They have several formulas but I use the original one, which I've heard is the best.
I wrote some posts about it here, in case you wanna check it out. http://bit.ly/hpVagN
    Hope it helps! x

  3. i picked up nail tek foundation 2 and it really makes my nails rock solid. they normally bend and are prone to peeling but when i use it, its like, a complete 180 from where they were. i picked up a bottle from harmons, about 10.50$. a little steep imo but worth it overall because it really does work wonders. i had the same issues as you and i had about 10 people rec. this to me and im glad i gave it a try!

  4. @Cathryn, thanks for that recommendation. I guess I'll give OPI Nail Envy a try first since I've already ordered that and then if it doesn't work try Nail Tek. Having nice nails is such a pricey business!

  5. Having nice nails IS a pricey business ;-) but a much enjoyable one I think.

You definitely need to be wearing a protective base coat (such as Nail Envy) naked nails are going to suffer more damage and wear and tear than protected nails. I love Nails Inc Air Street or their A&E base coat. They're VERY GOOD. I've never actually tried out the Nail Envy products.

You need to keep using the Avoplex stuff though, especially the oil. It will be doing the world of good for your nails.

...just need to put some armour on them.

Filing them with a GOOD QUALITY nail file is a must e.g. Leighton Deny crystal nail file. The theory is that they don't tear at the layers in the nail and instead seal the edge of the nail. File your nails (even if it's only a little) once a week.

Hope you see an improvement soon x

  6. I grew out my nails in 3-4 month from shorter than yours to almost twice as long.. What I did and do is to eat Vitamins And put oil, a natural oil or a mix of natural oils on your nails at least twice a day. They grew really fast and my "whites" always look like they've gt french manicure on them. You can see my before and after pic here : http://yolandaas.blogspot.com/2011/09/nailgrowth.html

    good luck xx
